2014 – 2023

Stephen started with the project as an undergraduate in 2014. After a stint in industry, he returned and completed his PhD in 2023, focusing on noninvasive methods to read the Herculaneum scrolls. Stephen is now the Project Lead for Vesuvius Challenge, an international research competition building on these results and recovering the texts of this lost library.
